Video surveillance

CCTV and video surveillance in retail help staff feel safer, reduce shrinkage and give you better evidence when something happens. With modern IP cameras you can watch live and play back recordings from your phone. StoreIQ plans and installs video surveillance for stores across Sweden.

IP cameras for entrance, tills, shop floor and stockroom

Different areas of a store have different needs. At the entrance, cameras must cope with backlight from doors and windows. At the tills you need good detail, and in the stockroom low light and tall racking can be the challenge. We walk through the store and recommend camera types and positions that give a clear picture where it matters, without recording more than necessary.

IP cameras deliver sharp images and can often receive both power and data over a single network cable. That simplifies installation and makes the system easy to expand. The same cameras can also be used for video analytics, such as queue alerts and heatmaps, if you decide to take that step later on, which makes the investment more flexible over time.

Recording, storage and mobile access

Recording, storage and mobile access

Footage can be stored locally on a recorder in the store, in the cloud or as a combination of both. We help you choose based on how long footage needs to be kept, how many cameras you have and how your network is set up. Recordings are protected with access rights so that only the right people can view them, and access can be logged.

Using a mobile app or a computer, you can watch live and play back recordings from every store. That makes it easier to check an incident quickly or support staff remotely. Camera status, such as whether a camera has lost connection, can be followed in StoreIQ Hub, so faults are spotted before you actually need the footage.

GDPR, signage and the Swedish Camera Surveillance Act

Camera surveillance in a store is covered by GDPR and the Swedish Camera Surveillance Act. Among other things, this means there should be a clear purpose, customers and staff must be informed through signs, and footage should not be kept longer than necessary. Cameras should also not be positioned to record areas where people have a particular need for privacy.

We help with practical matters such as camera placement, signage and retention settings, but we do not provide legal advice. We recommend reading the guidance on camera surveillance from IMY, the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection, and seeking legal support where needed, especially if staff are affected or you are unsure what applies to your store.

Installation and service from one contact

We mount the cameras, run the cabling and configure recording and the app. The work is done outside opening hours so the store can stay open. Once everything is in place we go through the system with you, show how to play back and export footage, and document the installation, which is useful if you ever need to explain how surveillance is set up.

The camera system can be linked to anti-theft gates and intruder alarms, so events appear in one place. Under a service agreement we monitor that the cameras are working and help if anything fails. You have one contact for cameras, network and the rest of your store technology, whether you run one store or a whole chain, which saves time for you and your managers.

How we deliver

  1. Site visit to agree purpose, areas and camera positions

  2. Proposal covering cameras, recording, storage and signage

  3. Installation and configuration outside opening hours

  4. Walk-through of app and export, then service through an agreement

Frequently asked questions

Are we allowed to use CCTV in our store?

Camera surveillance in stores is common, but it must comply with GDPR and the Swedish Camera Surveillance Act. There should be a clear purpose, signs informing people, and reasonable retention periods. We recommend reading the IMY guidance on camera surveillance and getting legal advice for your specific situation if needed.

How long can recordings be kept?

There is no single period that applies to everyone. Footage should not be kept longer than the purpose requires, and many retailers choose a short retention period with automatic deletion. We configure the period you decide on, and the IMY guidance can support that decision.

Can I view the cameras on my phone?

Yes. Using a mobile app or a computer, you can watch live and play back recordings from one or several stores. We set up access with personal logins and permissions, so only those who should have access can see the footage.

Do we need CCTV signs?

Yes, people being recorded must be informed about the surveillance, which in practice means clear signs at the entrance and in monitored areas. The sign should, among other things, show who is responsible for the surveillance. We help with placement, and the IMY guidance describes what the information should include.

Can you extend an existing camera system?

Often, yes, depending on how old the system is and what technology it uses. We review your existing cameras and recorder during the site visit and advise whether it is best to build on them or replace them. The goal is a system that is easy to use and maintain.
