Anti-theft gates

EAS anti-theft gates at the entrance are one of the most proven ways to reduce theft in retail. The gates sound an alarm when an item with an active tag leaves the store without being paid for. StoreIQ supplies and installs EAS gates, tags and deactivation equipment for stores across Sweden.

AM or RF: which system suits your store?

There are two common technologies for electronic article surveillance: AM (acousto-magnetic) and RF (radio frequency). AM systems often cope with wider entrances and work well with products containing metal or foil, while RF systems are popular in fashion and specialist retail where thin, low-cost labels are needed. The choice affects the gates, the tags and the deactivation equipment, so it pays to decide carefully.

We review your product range, the width of your entrance and whether any nearby equipment might cause interference. Based on that, we recommend a system and a layout. If you already have gates, we can assess whether they can be built upon or whether replacing them makes more sense. Either way, the proposal is based on your products and your entrance, not on a standard package.

Labels, hard tags and deactivation

Labels, hard tags and deactivation

Soft labels are attached to packaging and deactivated at the till, while hard tags are fitted to clothing and removed with a detacher. For cosmetics, electronics and spirits there are also safer boxes and other specialist options. We help you choose tags that suit your products and are easy for staff to handle as part of their daily routine.

Reliable deactivation at the till is essential to avoid false alarms, which annoy customers and cause staff to stop reacting when the gates go off. We install deactivators and detachers to fit the layout of your tills and show staff how to use them correctly. A short briefing for everyone who works on the tills makes a real difference to how customers experience the store.

Discreet gates that suit your interior

Anti-theft gates do not have to look like a barrier at the door. There are transparent gates, slim pedestals and systems mounted under the floor or in the ceiling. Gates can also carry advertising panels or your logo. We suggest a solution that gives good coverage while fitting the look of your store, and we make sure the entrance stays easy to pass with pushchairs and wheelchairs.

The gates can be linked to video surveillance, so an image or clip is saved when an alarm is triggered. The number of alarms per day and per store can be followed in StoreIQ Hub, giving you a basis for spotting times or product groups that need extra attention, and for judging whether your protection should be strengthened or moved.

Installation, tuning and service

We mount the gates, run the cables and tune the system to your entrance and surroundings. Tuning matters, because the gates should detect tags reliably without reacting to anything else. The work is done outside opening hours, and we test with the tags you will actually use before handing over to your staff, so you know the system works from day one.

After installation you have one contact for service, tag supplies and troubleshooting. Under a service agreement we help if the gates start alarming for no clear reason or if something needs moving during a refit. We work with retailers across Sweden, from single stores to chains, and for chains the same set-up can be used in every location to simplify purchasing and training.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between AM and RF?

AM and RF are two EAS technologies that operate on different frequencies. AM often handles wider entrances and products containing metal, while RF is common in fashion and specialist retail. Tags only work with their own type of system, so the choice should be based on your products and your entrance.

Why do the gates sometimes go off for no reason?

False alarms are often caused by tags that were not deactivated, tags from other shops or interference from equipment near the entrance. Correct tuning and reliable deactivation at the till reduce the problem considerably. We can troubleshoot existing systems and recommend practical improvements.

How wide an entrance can the gates cover?

That depends on the system and the tags used. Wider entrances need more pedestals or a floor or ceiling solution. We measure your entrance during the site visit and suggest a layout that gives good coverage without getting in the way of customers, pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Can we keep using our existing tags?

If the new gates use the same technology as your current tags, they will usually work. If you switch from AM to RF or the other way round, the tags will need replacing too. We review what you have today and recommend the simplest and most cost-effective option.

Can the gates be linked to our cameras?

Yes, many systems can send a signal when the gate alarms, so the camera system marks the event or saves a clip. This makes it easier to see afterwards what happened. How the footage is handled must still follow the rules on camera surveillance and GDPR.
