AI video analytics

AI video analytics lets the cameras in your store provide insights as well as security. The analysis shows where customers move, alerts staff when the checkout queue grows and helps you spot patterns. StoreIQ installs privacy-first video analytics for retailers across Sweden.

Benefits for your store

  • Heatmaps that reveal busy and underused areas
  • Notifications to staff when queues grow
  • Insight for layout, promotions and staffing
  • Anonymous statistics without images of people
  • Can often use your existing cameras
  • Reports alongside other data in StoreIQ Hub

Heatmaps showing how customers move

A heatmap shows which parts of the store attract the most visitors and where customers stop. It gives you a solid basis for placing promotional products, changing the layout or spotting departments that get too little attention. Changes can be tracked over time, so you can see whether a new layout actually affected customer flow.

The analysis is based on movement statistics, not on who people are. Results are presented as maps and charts of areas and times, which makes them easy to use in discussions with store managers and buyers. Heatmaps can also be compared between stores in a chain, so you can see which layouts work best and share good examples.

Queue alerts when more tills are needed

Queue alerts when more tills are needed

Video analytics can count how many people are queuing at the tills and send a notification to staff when the queue gets too long. More tills can then be opened in time, before customers lose patience. The threshold for the alert can be adjusted to the size of the store and how the checkouts are organised, and alerts can go to a phone or a screen.

Queue statistics also show when queues tend to build up, giving you a basis for staffing. Together with people counting and sales data, it becomes easier to see how queues affect conversion. With that knowledge you can plan checkout staffing more accurately and follow up whether changes to hours or tills had the effect you wanted.

Privacy first

Video analytics in retail should be designed with privacy in mind. We propose solutions where the analysis produces anonymous statistics, such as counts and movement patterns, without storing images of people or identifying individual visitors. The analysis often runs directly in the camera or on a local device, so only the statistics are kept, which reduces the amount of sensitive data.

Because the analysis relies on cameras, GDPR and the Swedish Camera Surveillance Act still apply, with requirements on purpose and information to visitors, among other things. We help with the practical settings, but recommend reading the IMY guidance and seeking legal advice where needed. A clear purpose from the start also makes it easier to choose the right features.

Get started with existing or new cameras

Depending on the cameras you have, the analysis can sometimes run on existing equipment. Otherwise we add cameras or sensors designed for the purpose. We go through what you want to achieve and propose a solution that gives useful answers, rather than collecting data nobody looks at. Analytics should support everyday decisions, not create extra work for your team.

Installation is done outside opening hours, and reports are presented in StoreIQ Hub alongside your other store data. Under a service agreement we check that the analysis is working and help you interpret the results. You can start with a few features, such as queue alerts, and add heatmaps and more cameras once you see the value in your store.

How we deliver

Frequently asked questions

Does video analytics store images of customers?

The solutions we propose focus on anonymous statistics, where the analysis counts and measures movement without storing images of people or identifying them. Exactly how it works depends on the technology chosen, and we go through this with you before installation.

Can we use our existing cameras?

Sometimes, depending on the camera model, position and image quality. In other cases you will need cameras or sensors designed for analytics. We review your current equipment and recommend the option that gives the best results for the money.

How do queue alerts work?

The analysis counts how many people are waiting in a defined area at the tills. When the number passes a threshold you set, a notification is sent to staff so more tills can be opened. The statistics are stored to show when queues usually form.

What does GDPR mean for video analytics?

Video analytics relies on cameras and is therefore covered by GDPR and the Swedish Camera Surveillance Act. Requirements include purpose, information and how data is handled. We do not give legal advice, but recommend the IMY guidance and help with privacy-friendly settings.

Is video analytics suitable for smaller stores?

Video analytics usually delivers the most value in larger stores and chains with many customers and several departments. For smaller stores, a people counter can be a simpler first step. We help you assess what suits your business.
