IT and networks

Retail IT and networks are the foundation of everything in a modern store: the tills, card terminals, cameras, alarms and electronic shelf labels. If the network fails, the store stops. StoreIQ builds stable, secure networks for retailers across Sweden and looks after them.

IT and networks

Benefits for your store

  • Stable connectivity for tills, cameras and labels
  • Separate networks for payments, staff and guests
  • A firewall that is kept up to date
  • Automatic 4G or 5G backup connection
  • Network status in StoreIQ Hub
  • One contact for IT and store technology

A network built for the retail environment

A store has different needs from an office. Equipment is spread across the shop floor, stockroom and checkouts, and chillers, metal shelving and thick walls can all affect Wi-Fi. We survey the premises and plan switches, access points and cabling so that every device gets a stable connection. The result is documented so troubleshooting is straightforward later on.

A well-planned network also lets you add new technology without major work. Cameras, labels, screens and people counters can be connected over time, and power over the network cable simplifies installing many devices. We record which outlets and ports are in use, so the network is easy to extend when the store changes or new equipment arrives.

Security with firewalls and separate networks

Security with firewalls and separate networks

Tills and card terminals should not share a network with guest Wi-Fi or staff phones. We divide the network into separate segments for payments, store equipment, staff and guests, and protect it with a firewall. This reduces the risk of a problem in one part of the network spreading to the rest, and is basic good practice for handling payments.

The firewall and network equipment are kept up to date and monitored. For chains, every store network can be built the same way, which makes it easier to troubleshoot and to introduce new solutions across the whole chain at once. New stores can also be connected faster, because the configuration already exists and only needs adapting to the premises.

Backup connection over 4G or 5G

If the fibre connection goes down, the store can keep taking payments through a backup connection over 4G or 5G. The switch happens automatically, and traffic moves back once the fibre is restored. For stores where every hour of trading counts, it is a simple way to reduce the risk of the tills stopping. The backup can also carry alarms and cameras.

The status of the network, the backup connection and key devices is visible in StoreIQ Hub. If something goes down, we can often see it and start troubleshooting before staff have time to call, so the problem is solved sooner. You also get a clear picture of how often outages happen, which is useful in conversations with your internet provider.

Computers, printers and support

Beyond the network, we help with computers, printers and other IT equipment in the store and back office. We install, configure and replace equipment and make sure everything works together with your POS system and other store technology. That applies to new installations as well as when older equipment needs replacing, and we can help with purchasing too.

With a service agreement you have one contact for IT and networks, with support by phone, email and remote assistance. Installations and larger changes are carried out outside opening hours. It suits both the independent store that wants to avoid hassle and chains that want the same solution in every store across Sweden.

How we deliver

  1. Survey of premises, equipment and current network

  2. Proposal covering switches, Wi-Fi, firewall and backup

  3. Installation and cut-over outside opening hours

  4. Monitoring and support through a service agreement

Frequently asked questions

Why should the tills have their own network?

Tills and card terminals handle payments and should be protected from other traffic. With separate networks for payments, staff and guests, a problem or intrusion in one part is far less likely to affect payments. It also makes the network easier to troubleshoot.

How does a 4G or 5G backup connection work?

A router with a mobile subscription stands by and takes over automatically if the fibre stops working, so the tills can keep taking payments. When the fibre returns, traffic switches back. We help choose the router position and subscription to ensure good coverage.

Can we offer guest Wi-Fi to customers?

Yes, guest Wi-Fi runs on its own network, separated from tills and store equipment. You can choose whether it is open or requires a login, and limit the speed so guest traffic does not affect the rest of the store.

Can you take over an existing network?

Yes. We start by reviewing the existing equipment and any documentation, then recommend what can be kept and what should be replaced or added. It is often possible to improve stability and security without replacing everything at once.

What support is included?

That depends on the service agreement you choose. It normally includes support by phone, email and remote assistance, network monitoring and help when equipment needs replacing. We go through the options so the agreement matches the needs of your store.
